Gaming

Who else is more qualified to talk about gaming? Well, I bet ya I can. What’s the good and what’s the bad.

Gaming is what I do. For a living? No. But it takes up pretty much most of my free time. Why? Cos I like doing it. Though it really takes you away from the world you live in and put you in a virtual one. What is it that makes people like to play games so much?

Why do you like to read a novel? What is in a novel that makes it interesting? Characters in the books have problems that they solve and people like to read about how they overcome all the monsters or baddies or problems they face. That is what draws people into the story and spend hours upon hours just flipping the pages maybe taking a few moments off to take a sip of coffee from time to time.

It is exactly the same case in video games. They present you with a set of problems that you have to solve and you will spend hours upon hours trying to get to the end of it. Games do test various aspect of the human mind. Namely your reflex, logical thinking, creativity. Well, maybe others which I will not be able to say cause it’d probably be in some scientific term which sounds more like nonsense to me.

Movies we watch nowadays have more wham bam effects than actual content. Whichever way, they will still succeed in drawing audiences. Games however require real content to keep people playing. There must be interesting things for people to do, like stealing cars on the road and start robbing banks or trying to survive in a world that recently had a nuclear fallout. There must be a certain depth in the games for it to be interesting. Plain looks and action won’t do. For examples of games with real depth, check out Baldur’s Gate and its sequel. It’s an RPG with so many things you can do and so many ways you can play it and so many ways the world changes to your actions it really brings you into the game.

Too tired to continue. Doh. Talk again next post!

My Week at Changi

Ever wondered why they place the prison at Changi? Cos that is some place I do not want to be! Far away from home, far away from civilisation. Changi Naval Base = mosquitoes + dolphins(real ones!) + stuffy bunk + weird lessons + very good food! + The OC. That sort of sums up my experience there. Not to mention the surprise exercise on the last day. Been nice knowing the guys over at CDS though. Would be good if in any case we have to work with them in the future.

The High Life

This is a good show. Makes you feel for the characters. We relate to it don’t we? And the soundtrack just rocks. Love the show.

Anyway, I saw dolphins today! Real doplhins!~ not some animal planet thing. They were swimming off the wharf at the naval base. damn nice. very graceful. Yeah. Wish I could take photos of them. Oh and it just makes you feel like riding on them, going into the ocean and back up.

And Liverpool won 2 – 1 over Portsmouth away! trememndous play by the Spanish players Morientes and Garcia. GOGO! stupid Man United… lose to Everton… ergh

Timeless

Truthfully, I have no idea what timeless can be attributed to. But in my context, it means there’s not enough time. I wanted to update the blog yesterday but what happened? My XBOX came back from being soft modded and now I can play loads of games, watch dvds on it and store pictures etc on my dear XBOX. Spent some time on it, and of course on World of Warcraft. LvL 27 now. Lagging by 2 levels behind my friends. Darn. Do more quests!

Yes, as you can see, not enough time is always an excuse. When we say we have not enough time to finish something, it’s bullshit, it’s absurd. Don’t ever use that excuse! People will laugh at you. It is always about time management and prioritising. Doh. I obviously haven’t been doing well in this area.

Just wanna say that this has been a classic show…

Just wanna say that this has been a classic show. One of my favourite shows, probably for now and in a long time to come. I remember watching this show with Eliz and WeiLian if I’m not wrong.

It is just oh-so-sweet from the beginning till the end. Where else would you find love so divine that one man would learn Portugese to propose to the woman he loves to find that she had in turn learned English for him? Where else would you find a man who’s fallen so deeply in love with a woman married to his best friend only to walk away from it on Christmas with the best gift to her?

A wide range of assorted eye candies like Hugh Grant and Rowan Atkinson graces this romantic comedy. A great soundtrack filled with the joys of the season of love and a great story of love shared not just between couples but it examines the relationship of wife and husband, dad and son, siblings and even office relationships.

Absolutely classic. I love this show.Posted by Hello
